~ Club History - A Look Back in Time ~
A Centenary Reenactment Event
On the 14th of April 2003 the Club held a reenactment of the first Club meeting at the Railway Hotel in Port Adelaide, which was the same location as the inaugural meeting. The night was very well attended with members of the South Australian Soccer Federation (SASF) Commission (now FSA) including General Manager Tony Farrugia and Commission Chairman Tony Henshaw, along with our own Commission representative Michael Oleksyn. Sports Minister Michael Wright was unable to attend, however his Secretary attended in his absence. In excess of 120 people, most of them in period costume, enjoyed the historic occasion.

~ Getting to Know You - The Committee ~
Also, each edition we'll be sharing a bit about members of the club committee. This way you get to know who the people are that are driving this great club to be the best club in the country!
What is your name?
Kirsty Arnold
What is your role on the committee?
Community Engagement Coordinator and Values Committee Member
What inspired you to become a member of the club committee?
As a teacher, I believe in supporting others to follow their passions but also building strong communities where everyone feels they can thrive. I had a lot of ideas about how the Pirates could connect with our local community and the things we could do as a club internally to grow, not only amazing soccer players but amazing citizens. I knew how hard the committee worked and how busy they were so, instead of asking them to take on more, I put my hand up to start putting my ideas into actions
What do you hope to achieve as a member of the committee?
Currently I am working with Carly Barry to develop ideas and programs that will hopefully strengthen and grow girls/women’s participation in soccer at the club. I am also working with the PAE council to increase our participation in community events. In doing this, I hope that when people think of the Pirates they think of us as a great club that is an integral part of the Le Fevre peninsula and a leader in what we do.
How long have you been involved with soccer?
Since my eldest, Toby, started in under 6s in 2017.
What is your favourite soccer memory?
It’s not my favourite but my strongest memory is watching Man City beat QPR 6-0 in 2015 and having to cover my then 8 month old's ears every time City scored because he was asleep!
Do you have a favourite soccer team or player?
Pirates U11 Black, Pirates U9 Gold, Adelaide United, Dundee United… David would want me to say Manchester City and I have also jumped on the Wrexham bandwagon. Craig Goodwin is my favourite player.
Have you ever played soccer? If so, what position did you play?
Nope. I was a netballer growing up and played mainly WA and WD.
Have you been involved with any other sports or activities? If so, which ones?
Netball when I was younger. I worked on the scoreboard for U16s and U18 for the Port Magpies for a couple of seasons. I also worked at AAMI Stadium for AFL games while I was at uni.
What are some of your interests and hobbies outside of soccer?
I usually prioritise exercise when I have spare time but also love travelling and camping. Photography and baking are other hobbies I occasionally find time for.
~ The NPL Pep Talk Podcast ~
Pirates Cult Hero, Stevie Pepper, is joined each week by Pep Baldino to talk all things FSA NPL. Have a listen and support the boys as they take on the 2023 season!
It looks like the boys have gone to sleep for the past month, as they haven't provided an updated podcast since the 7th of June. Hopefully they wake up from their winter slumber soon...
