~ 120th Anniversary Weekend ~
This week we celebrate the club's 120th anniversary! The oldest club in the country is getting older by the year, but richer in its heritage. There is a lot planned for this weekend's celebrations, not least the Past Players match, where we'll see some of our former players representing teams named after iconic Pirates alumni. ~ A Look Back at a Former Player ~
~~ Kevin Heffernan ~~
Kevin was born in Alberton, South Australia in 1930. like many others he was recruited from Le Fevre Boys Technical School and started with the club in 1944.
He played his first senior game at age 15 and held the club record for the number of games played (410). He retired in 1960 but made a comeback in 1963 to 1965.
He represented South Australia ten times and also played for Australia.
Kevin coached the Senior team for a number of years and was also involved in the administration side of the club.
He gained the club’s Best Player award (Le Huray Trophy) on a number of occasions and was rewarded with Life Membership of the club.
~ Others Have Tried...But Failed! ~
Over the past 120 years many clubs have attempted to establish themselves in the Port Adelaide District with varying degrees of success but none of the below now remain.
Largs Bay College, Cheltenham, Cheltenham Athletic, Cheltenham Rangers, Semaphore, Rosewater, Largs Athletic, Alberton Juniors, Harbors Board, Port Thistle, Torch Bearers, Trojan Thistle, Pennington, I.C.I. , Cracovia, Doxa, Yadran, Taperoo, North Haven Juniors, Don Largs, Adelaide Milan, and Apollo II.

Shot-stopping as a goalkeeper.

Winning our last game of the season to win the league
Do you have a favourite soccer team or player?
Liverpool
Have you ever played soccer? If so, what position did you play?
Yes. Started as a winger/striker, then gradually moved backwards as I got older with midfield in 20’s and sweeper in 30’s.
Have you been involved with any other sports or activities? If so, which ones?
Created and run the Phoenix Cup which is a football tournament for people with disabilities
